The 3D Book component is almost the same as the 3D Box component, but with an additional feature to allow it to display an object such as a book instead of a box. This component is useful to create book-like 3D objects. These can be used for: books, DVD boxes, video cassette cases and so on...
1. Open your box pattern in 'box.fla' as created in the Controlling the dimensions tutorial or create a new one:

2. Create six movieclips
as usual and name them: "left", "right", "top", "bottom", "front" and "back".
3. Copy and paste the file "3D BookLive.swf" into the same folder as your movie (this is needed for the 3D Book advanced live preview. Read more about this here: Using advanced live preview.
4. Go back to your main timeline and drag an instance of the 3D Book component from the Components Panel and drop it onto the stage.
5. Test your movie in order to prepare the required swf file for the advanced live preview (ctrl-enter).
6. Enter the "content" parameter in the 3D Book properties window: "top, right, front, back, left, bottom".
7. Test your movie again and verify that a 3D box has been is successfully created.
8. Now edit the "right" movieclip, reducing the vertical size (height) of content in this movieclip. Ensure that the contents is still aligned in the center (center registration point):

9. Next, edit the
"top" movieclip and reduce the horizontal size (width). Ensure that the alignment of the left edge of the clip's content does not change. Do the same with the "bottom" movieclip:

10. With
the 3D Box component we would get two
holes in the corners now, however the 3D
Book component knows to shift the "right", "top" and
"bottom" sides
to connect them inside like this:
